The American based fast-food company will use AI at the drive thru windows in the recent future driving profits.
Artificial Intelligence technology designed by Dynamic Yield enhances customer experience at the fast-food giant by fitting AI technology at the drive thru window. McDonalds has successfully tested the technology in several restaurants in 2018 and seeks to provide personalized experience through displaying the menu according to trending menu, weather, rush at the restaurant, local events taking place, previous sales information and hours of the day.
Daniel Henry, executive vice president at the company stated in Wired, a monthly journal that he expects around 1, 000 outlets to use operate this system in the drive thru. The system is estimated to cater to 14, 000 restaurants in the US and later expand to other arenas. The reported AI system costs around US$ 300 million dollars. The system is based AI which will study all the factors and suggest the customer what to purchase. In case of a hot sweltering day in summer, the technology will show McFlurry or iced drinks on the window. In case the traffic level at the outlet is exceeding, the AI system will suggest items which will take less time to be prepared.
McDonalds is planning to fit the AI system in Kiosks based on self-ordering and on its official app. Despite of Dynamic Yield’s effort to build such a system, the company will still function independently. Currently, the company’s clients are Urban Outfitters, Ikea and Sephora. Daniel concluded that the company may also use recognition of number plate in order to tailor a specific menu for the customer based on purchase history.
