US Soccer said in its statement that its board of directors voted on Tuesday to cancel their policy, which came after US soccer team player Meghan Rabinoy kneeled in solidarity with the Colin Kaybernick protests. Kaepernick, the former San Francisco 49ers midfielder, started kneeling before matches in 2016 and has not been signed for the team since 2017.
“We have not done enough to listen – especially to our players – to understand and endorse the very real and meaningful experiences of blacks and other minority communities in our country,” the Football Association said in its statement. “We apologize for our players – especially our black players – the staff, the fans and all those who support the elimination of racism.”
The federation said it had not yet used its platform effectively to address issues such as racism, discrimination and inequality, and pledged to do so forward.
“We are here for our players and ready to support them in raising their efforts to achieve social justice. We cannot change the past, but we can make a difference in the future. We are committed to this change effort and we will be and stated in the statement” Implementing supportive measures in the near future. ”
The NFL admits that was a mistake
Earlier this month, the National Football Confederation Commissioner Roger Goodell said the league should have listened to his players about racist fears sooner.
“We, the National Football League, admit that we were wrong not to hear from the NFL players earlier and we encourage everyone to speak out and protest peacefully,” said Goodell.
But the commissioner was criticized for what he did not say: Gödel Kipernik, who saw a violent reaction after his peaceful protests on the field, was not mentioned.
“I think if they fall into Cape again, it will show that they are already trying to move in a different direction,” said Carlos Hyde, the new Seattle Seahawks player. “Because Cape was making a statement four years ago about what is going on in today’s world and that the NFL didn’t bother to listen to it at that time, so I think they should start doing that.”
